The Game Story:
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2008) – Junior Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied four goals and two assists, while senior Rob Renetta (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) each netted hat tricks on Sunday afternoon, as the seventh-ranked C.W. Post men’s lacrosse team defeated the Assumption Greyhounds, 14-5, at Hickox Field.

The Pioneers scored the first three goals of the game, with Cerar assisting Renetta’s fifth tally of the season at 10:42, then Renetta assisting Cerar at 7:47. The two teamed up again when Cerar assisted another Renetta goal at 3:10 left in the first quarter.

The Pioneers traded goals with the Greyhounds throughout the second quarter, and went into the half leading 7-4 after Loftus scored with 16 seconds left in the half off an assist from senior Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.).

The Pioneers dominated the second half, with the offense scoring seven goals and the defense allowing only one goal to the Greyhounds.

C.W. Post owned a 42-15 advantage in shots on the day, including an 18-3 edge in the second period, while sophomore Mike Cama (Levittown, N.Y.) won 18 of his 21 face-offs on the day. Renetta dished out a game-high three assists, Spinelli added a goal and two assists, and Dimler notched a goal and an assist.

Junior goalie Dan Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) recorded his third win of the season, making three saves to improve to 3-0.

Assumption goalkeeper Chris Bird turned aside 19 shots on goal from C.W. Post.

Head coach John Jez and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Mar. 1), when they play host to Bryant at Hickox Field. Face-off from Hickox Field is scheduled for 12 noon.
