March 28, 2009
The Game Story:
WALTHAM, Mass. --- Junior co-captain George Gullage

(Billerica/BillericaHS) scored three goals as the Bentley College men¿s lacrosse team won their first game of the season, knocking off #10 Saint Michael¿s College 9-8 in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams Wednesday night.

Bentley is now 1-1 against top-10 teams, having lost to #8 C.W. Post in their season opener last Saturday.

The Purple Knights looked like they might bust the game open from the start as they scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game. Senior Kevin Duffy (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored the first of his two goals for the visitors at 3:07 and sophomore Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn.) tallied the second at 5:57.

Bentley got on the board at the 10:19 mark of the first frame onsophomore Nick Slottje¿s (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca HS) first goal of the season.

Saint Michael¿s opened the scoring in the second at 6:10 on the first of three goals from senior Bryan Barletto (Loiverpool, N.Y.). Bentley then took control of the game, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead into the intermission. Gullage got the momentum started with his goal at 7:53 and freshman Jeffrey Smrecek (W. Springfield/W. Springfield HS), junior Jordan Benjamin (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury HS), rookie Adam Zurick (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and junior James Thibadeau (Cheshire, Conn./Avon Old Farms HS) all followed with goals of their own.

The two teams traded goals in the third, with Bentley goalie Andrew Hartig (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo HS) scoring his first career goal on a full field charge at 13:13.

The Purple Knights outscored Bentley 4-2 in the final stanza, climbing within one, but stingy defense by the Falcons and solid goal-tending from Hartig secured the win.

Bentley improves to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NE-10, and Saint Michael¿s is handed their first loss of the season and drop to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Falcons will be back in action Saturday, as they host Adelphi at 1:00
