The Game Story:
WALTHAM, Mass. - Bentley College scored the only five goals of the second half to pull away from Southern New Hampshire, 11-5, in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. It is the fourth consecutive win for the Falcons, who improve to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the NE-10, while the Penmen fall to 1-6 and 1-4 in league play.

Leading by just two goals heading into the fourth period, sophomore Craig Cormier (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) would help Bentley put Southern New Hampshire away. He scored his second goal of the game with 8:24 remaining to make the lead three, 8-5. The Falcons made the advantage four less than a minute later when freshman Dan Scavone (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) scored with a man advantage.

Cormier ended all doubt with a superb solo effort minutes later to make score 10-5. He received the ball to the left of the Southern goal and then proceeded to put a double move on his defender and shot past Greg Palladino (Hingham, Mass.) just before the Penmen defense could slide and provide help. Sophomore Kevin Osborne (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) added a goal with 2:35 on the clock for the final goal of the game.

The first half was a back and forth affair that featured a lead change and four ties. Southern opened the scoring 5:22 into the game through Mike Hart (South Hadley, Mass.), it was the last time that the Penmen led all afternoon. Junior Ryan Bouchey (Troy, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) knotted the game at one, 1:38 later and Bentley's leading scorer sophomore Bob Catala (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Yorktown) gave the Falcons the lead with 4:47 left in the first quarter. Hart scored his second of the game to tie it at two thirty seconds later and senior Joshua Kurland (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) gave Bentley the lead at the end of one quarter with his 12th goal of the season.

Brian Molyneaux (West Hartford, Conn.) evened the game at three 1:21 into the second quarter, but Cormier countered with his first goal of the afternoon for Bentley. Bouchey gave the Falcons the largest lead of the first half (5-3) with his second goal of the game.

The Penmen would claw back two in a row with goals from Ben Lanman (Concord, N.H.) and Josh Law (Liverpool, N.Y.), but those were the last two shots that Bentley goalie junior Chris White (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) would let past him. Scavone gave Bentley the half time lead with a strike with just 1:05 on the clock.

Freshman Jason Veale (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) gave Bentley a two goal lead when he scored the only goal of the third quarter and White would shut the Penmen in the second half stopping all six shots that Southern managed to get on frame. He finished the afternoon with ten saves and improves to 3-0 on the season, while Palladino finished with 21 saves, the majority keeping Southern close in the first half.

Bentley returns to action on Tuesday for an important NE-10 showdown at Bryant University that is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
