Catawba vs. Bentley
March 8, 2008
The Game Story:
SALISBURY, N.C. - Junior Andy Curtis (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) and sophomore Wyatt Couture (South Hadley, Mass./Avon Old Farms) each scored four goals to lead Bentley to an 11-5 win over Catawba on Saturday afternoon in Division II men's lacrosse action at Shuford Stadium. The Falcons opened the season with a win, while the Indians fell to 2-2.

Catawba struck first when senior Kurt Green (San Diego, Calif.) scored the only goal of the first quarter about five minutes in, the first of his team-high three goals for the Indians.

Bentley came charging back with a five-goal second quarter to take a lead that they never relinquished. Sophomore Kevin Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) scored the Falcons' first of the season to tie the game and Curtis gave Bentley the lead midway through the second. Gould and Curtis each added another before halftime, as did sophomore Stephen Moulton (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) to boost the Falcons to a 5-1 halftime lead.

Sophomore Nick Desper (Carrboro, N.C.) and freshman Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, Mass.) tallied goals for Catawba in the third quarter, but Couture scored four in the second half to better the lead, starting with the first of two man-up goals in the middle of the third quarter that was the eventual game-winning goal.

Green tried to get Catawba back in to the game with a pair of fourth-quarter goals to make it a 9-5 game with five minutes to go, but Curtis and Couture each netted a pair in the final frame to hold off the Indians.

The Indians outshot the Falcons by a 38-30 margin, but Bentley put more shots on goal, 23-21. Junior Kris Dambach (Chester, N.J./West Morris Central HS) made 16 saves in goal to earn the win for Bentley, while senior Ben Huber (Westminster, Md.) stopped 12 shots for Catawba.

The Falcons are in action again on Monday, traveling to Misenheimer, N.C., to face Pfeiffer at 2 p.m. before returning home to host Adelphi in the home opener on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m.
