|BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 9, 2008) Ė Junior attacker Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied a goal and four assists as fourth-ranked C.W. Post set aside Seton Hill, 15-5, in a non-conference menís lacrosse game Sunday afternoon on Hickox Field.|
The win is the sixth straight in a perfect season so far for the Pioneers while the Griffins fall to 3-2 overall.
Junior midfielder Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.) led all scorers with four goals in the game.
The Pioneers scored the first goal just 40 seconds into the game when Dimler scored on a short pass from Cerar. C.W. Post added another at the 5-minute mark when sophomore attacker Matt Merritt (Long Beach, N.Y.) scored with Cerar assisting on the play.
Seton Hill evened things up when freshman midfielder Joel Zalesky scored off Pioneer goalkeeper Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) at 6:17 in the first quarter. C.W. Post added two more goals and held a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw only one goal scored and it was in favor of the Pioneers as junior attacker Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) scored 58 seconds in with Cerar assisting.
Seton Hill threatened in the third quarter when junior midfielder Chris Horigan scored a man-up goal at 14:03 to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the home team.
Loftus scored for the second time in the game to add an insurance goal at 9:44 on a pass from freshman midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.). The Griffins added one more goal with 5:39 remaining in the third before allowing nine straight Pioneer goals to close out the game.
Loftus completed the game with three goals while senior attacker Rob Renetta (East Syracuse, N.Y.) had one goal and two assists on the day.
Sciulla made three saves in goal for his fifth win of the season. Seton Hillís Corey Struss made 16 saves in goal.
C.W. Post outshot the Griffins, 46-22 and held a 37-23 advantage in ground balls.
The Pioneers will host top-ranked LeMoyne College on Mar. 16 at noon on Hickox Field.
