March 1, 2008
The Game Story:
Brookhaven, NY- Over 50 years in the making, the Menís Lacrosse team went down in history this afternoon as the first Dowling College athletic team to play on the new Golden Lion Field. Senior, Nick Cotter (Brampton, Ontario) recorded the Golden Lions first goal on their new home field despite slipping 8-2 to the #1 Dolphins of Le Moyne College. Le Moyne hands the Golden Lions their first loss of the season as they drop to 2-1 overall as the Dolphins take their first win of the season.

The Dolphins got off to an early start three minutes into the first quarter with quick movement around the Golden Lion crease. Senior, Alex Bily, hit a cutting Brian Cost at the net for his first goal of the season and the go ahead point for Le Moyne. The Golden Lions intensity roared near the end of the quarter, when senior captain, Kevin Rimmer (Ronkonkoma, NY) beat his defender to the net to draw a Le Moyne slashing penalty with two minutes remaining on the clock. Junior, Keith Lorenzo (Ronkonkoma, NY) , tested Dolphin goalkeeper, Doug Mclver, and was able to draw a double penalty with 30 seconds on the clock. With a two-man Golden Lion advantage , Ed Hoctor (Selden, NY) fired a shot at the buzzer but Mclver made a crucial save in the net to hold a one goal Dolphin lead. Dowling carried over their momentum into the second quarter, causing the Dolphins fourth penalty of the game at 13:34 on the clock. Rimmer found a streaming Nick Cotter (Whitby, Ontario) toward the crease to record Cotterís eighth goal of the season and to even the score at 1-1. The Golden Lions fought for the lead as they continued to fire off shots but the Dolphins, Jack Venditti, scored unassisted at 2:06 on the clock for a 2-1 Le Moyne advantage at the half.

At the start of the second half, goalkeeper, Nick Tracey (Farmingville, NY) made two quick saves to keep the Golden Lions in the game but the Dolphins remained relentless on the attack resulting in Bryan Costís second goal of the game for a 3-1 lead at 7:26 on the clock. Five minutes later the Dolphins, Nick Gatto, dished off to an open Mike McDonald waiting at the net to give Le Moyne a 4-1 cushion. Cotter made one last attempt for Dowling before the start of the fourth quarter but was unable to find the back of the net. Joe Biondolillo (Holtsville, NY) sparked the Golden Lions offense with a cased turnover at the top of the box at the start of the fourth. Biondolillo dished off to Redmond Killpack (Lewes, DC) at the top of the crease to inch the Golden Lions to within two (2-4). The Dolphins answered back when Cost recorded a hat-trick with 12:01 on the clock and Gatto, tallied his second goal of the game, two minutes later for a 6-2 lead. Mike McDonald added his second to give to give the Dolphins a 7-2 advantage. With 5:04 remaining, sophomore, Kyle OíBrien (Whitby, Ontario) ripped a shot at Mclver but a kick save prevented a DC goal. The Dolphins closed out the scoring in the fourth with Gattoís second goal of the game as Le Moyne went en route to a 8-2 victory over the Golden Lions.
