Dowling vs. Mercyhurst

The Game Story:
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y.- The Dowling College men's lacrosse team came up short to Mercyhurst 10-8 this afternoon at Golden Lions Field. Dowling moves to 5-2 on the season as the Lakers improve to 4-2. Four different Golden Lions found the back of the net to open the game. Mercyhurst got on the board with 1:33 left in the opening frame when Brady Heseltine dished to Brett Williams bringing the game to 4-1. Dylan Hopkins snuck one past the Laker goalkeeper sending the Golden Lions into the second quarter ahead 5-1. Mercyhurst outscored Dowling 3 to 1 in the second with extra man opportunities to start the quarter before Matt Crough scored his second goal of the day. Mercyhurst's Heseltine tallied an unassisted score sending the teams into the break with DC leading 6-4. After the break, the Lakers went on a 5-0 tear taking their first lead of the day 9-6. Late in the quarter Billy Richardson connected with Kevin McElhone putting the Golden Lions within two, 9-7, heading into the final quarter. The Lakers took advantage of an extra man opportunity early in the quarter extending their lead to 10-7. Dowling would move the score for the final time with 21 seconds on the clock after Richardson dished to McElhone for the second time. Crough and McElhone finished with two goals apiece. Derek Muzio finished with four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Mercyhurst held a slight 31-26 advantage in the shot category. Dowling was able to control 12 of the 21 faceoffs in the game, but trailed in the groundball category 29-27. The Golden Lions return to action as they host Chestnut Hill College Saturday, April 5th at 1:00 PM.
