Dowling vs. Briarcliffe

The Game Story:
Brookhaven, NY- The #5 ranked Golden Lions win their 6th straight defeating Briarcliffe College 17-3 in non-conference action. Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) led all scorers with 10 points (5G, 5A) as Dowling improves to 8-1, with the loss Briarcliffe falls to 2-11.

After a more than two week lay-off, it took the Golden Lions some time to find their groove as the teams played scoreless for the first 7 minutes. Campbell found the back of the net at the 8:00 mark and quickly ignited the Dowling offensive starting a run 12 straight goals. Of Dowling's first 6 goals, Campbell played a part in all of them, scoring 3 and assistng on the other 3. Rob Punzio's unassisted tally at 7:56 got Briarcliffe on the board, but two more Golden Lions goals pushed the lead to 14-1 going into the half. Dowling's defense held Briarcliffe to 6 first half shots and midfielder Thomas Stellwagen (Holtsville, NY) won all 7 face-ofs he attempted.

The rain started to come in the second half which seemed to be the answer on how to stop the Golden Lions attack. Briarcliffe held Dowling to 18 second half shots but Dowling outscored Briarcliffe 3-2 in route to the 17-3 victory. Kevin Rimmer (Ronkonkoma, NY) finished with 2 goals and an assist and John McClure (Brampton, Ontario) contributed with 2 goals, and a team high 7 grund balls.

The Golden Lions face off at home against conference rival Molloy Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 PM.
