RINDGE, N.H. (March 7, 2009) - Dowling College, ranked seventh in this week's United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II poll, spoiled Franklin Pierce University's season-opener by rolling to a 25-5 victory in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Sodexo Field this afternoon.

Junior John McClure (Brampton, Ontario/Mayfield) led the way for Dowling with a ten point afternoon, posting eight goals and two assists. Classmate Kyle O'Brien (Whitby, Ontario/Trinity Pawling) added three goals and three assists for six points, while freshman Matthew Muzio (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) netted five goals. Freshman Danny Abbene (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) chipped in two goals and two assists for four points.

Senior co-captain Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) led Franklin Pierce with two goals, while classmate Ryan Boller (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) posted a goal and assist for two points. Junior Devon Dupuis (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) and freshman Matt Forzaglia (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton-Harmon) each chipped in a goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Dougherty (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) stopped all seven shot on goal he faced in just over 34 minutes of play to earn the win for Dowling. Sophomore Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) posted 11 saves in goal for Franklin Pierce.

Dowling, looking to bounce back from a season-opening loss at No. 2 Le Moyne College last Saturday, blazed to an 11-0 lead after the first quarter. Muzio scored four goals in the opening frame, while McClure added three goals and assisted on another. The Golden Lions lead was 16-0 at halftime and they scored the first 23 goals of the contest before Forzaglia broke the ice for Franklin Pierce 4:35 into the fourth quarter.

Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Sunday, March 15, when it opens its spring break trip at Saint Leo University at 1 p.m. The Ravens return home on Wednesday, March 25, to host Bentley University at 4 p.m. Dowling (1-1, 0-0 ECC) visits Pace University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
