Le Moyne vs. Assumption

The Game Story:
Syracuse, N.Y. – Three sophomores had three goals each to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 22-2 win over Assumption on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

The Dolphins charged out of the gates with eight goals in the opening quarter. Junior attackman Tyler Prevost (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart/Onondaga C.C.) started the scoring 2:34 into the contest after taking a pass in transition from senior long-stick midfielder Dan Mendez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown). Sophomore face-off specialist Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) won the ensuing face-off and raced up field to score his third goal of the season. Senior midfielder Taylor Brooks (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) tallied his eighth goal of the season with 11:21 remaining for a 3-0 Le Moyne lead.

Following three and one-half minutes of scoreless action, sophomore midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored his 15th goal of the year off an Assumption turnover. He then scored in an extra-man situation less than two minutes later from the right side of the crease off an across-the-crease pass from junior attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Freshman Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) picked up his fifth goal of the season with 3:33 remaining in the quarter.

The Dolphins then scored twice in the final 42 seconds of the quarter. Senior midfielder Nick Blumer (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Hobart) finished off a pass from Frechette with 42 seconds left, while graduate student midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) beat the buzzer from the left edge of the crease off a pass from the right side by Prevost.

Ty Martina got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with his fourth goal of the season at the 12:23 mark of the second quarter.

Sophomore attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored both of Le Moyne's goals in the quarter. He netted his first goal of the contest with 10:51 remaining in the stanza off a pass from Frechette. At the 7:41 mark, he scored from just off the crease in front of the goal off a pass over the goal by Frechette.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 18-2 at the end of the third quarter by outscoring the Greyhounds 8-1 in the period. Chadderdon started the run by firing a shot inside the right post from 10 yards out with 13:48 remaining. Bumpus won the ensuing face-off and raced towards the goal before finding Frechette, who buried his 14th goal of the season. Button completed his hat trick by converting a feed from Prevost with 9:28 remaining.

Sophomore attackman/midfielder Matt Klepper (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Merrimack) scored Le Moyne's next three goals in a span of 1:52. He scored his first of the day with 8:46 remaining from five yards in front of the goal off a pass from behind the net by senior attackman Sean Connors (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus). Just 33 seconds later, Klepper tallied his seventh goal of the season after taking a pass from junior attackman Justin DePalma (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Sacred Heart). With 6:52 remaining, Klepper finished off a pass from Breiner in a man-up situation to give the Dolphins a 16-1 lead.

Garrett Smith registered Assumption's second and final goal of the day with 5:09 remaining in the third quarter.

Connors bounced in a shot with 2:45 remaining from five yards in front of the goal after catching a pass from Klepper to regain the 15-goal margin for the Dolphins. Freshman attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) completed the scoring in the quarter with his second goal of the year with 20 seconds remaining off a pass from DePalma.

DePalma registered his fourth goal of the campaign 48 seconds into the final quarter. Following back-and-forth play over the next seven and one-half minutes, senior midfielder John Albanese (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) tallied his third goal of the year. Less than one minute later, freshman midfielder Alec Westerhoff (Lagrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township/Bridgton Academy) scored in transition after sophomore defenseman Eric Galanis (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) cleared the ball off a missed Assumption shot. Albanese capped the game's scoring with 3:08 left by finding the back of the net from the goal line extended on the left side.

Junior goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) made two saves in 37:08 between the pipes, while yielding one goal, to earn the victory. Will Contento suffered the loss after giving up eight goals in the first quarter, while making thee saves.

Le Moyne (14-0, 10-0 NE-10), which honored the 10 members of its senior class prior to the game, closes out the regular season on Saturday at Saint Anselm at 11:00 a.m. With today's victory, the Dolphins clinch the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title for the 12t time in the last 13 years. A win next Saturday would mark the12th time in the last 13 campaigns that the Dolphins finished the NE-10 portion of their schedule undefeated.
