| SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Jeff Sanford (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt)
scored four goals and assisted on two more to help Le Moyne past Bryant
for its second consecutive Northeast-10 Conference STX/Men's Lacrosse
Championship. Junior long stick midfielder Paul Isgar (Liverpool,
N.Y./Liverpool) was named the conference championship Most Valuable
Player.
Le Moyne scored eight of the final 10 goals, including the first four to turn a 9-9 game at the end of the third quarter into a six-goal margin. Freshman Kyle Reichel (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) rocketed a shot past Bryant goaltender Greg Horowitz (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) to put the Dolphins up for good, 10-9, two minutes into the final quarter. Brent Disinski (Columbus, Ga./Horseheads), Corey Sullivan (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) and Jason Brown (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) followed up Reichel's score to make it 13-9 midway through the fourth quarter. Bryant (11-6) sophomore Jeff Raggi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) pulled the Bulldogs back within three goals, but Mike Moran (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) and Isgar netted goals to put away the Bulldogs. Junior goalkeeper Tom Kimble (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) stopped 14 shots for Le Moyne, including seven in the second quarter. Horowitz turned aside 12 shots for Bryant. Freshman Brian Cinque (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) paced Bryant with three goals and an assist. Le Moyne, ranked No. 2 in the USILA Division II poll, is expected receive an at-large bid in the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship. The selection show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday night. Two teams from the North region and two teams from the South square off in the NCAA Division II tournament. |
