|Syracuse, N.Y. – All-Conference midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) scored a season-high three goals to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to an 8-4 win over ninth-ranked Saint Michael's on Friday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.|
With the victory, the Dolphins (16-0) advance to the conference championship game for the 12th time in the last 13 years. The Dolphins will host second-seeded Merrimack on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The teams are meeting in the championship game for the sixth time, with the Dolphins winning three of the first five meetings.
Sennett, a first team all-conference selection for the second straight year, opened the game's scoring with his 11th goal of the year 2:31 into the contest from the left wing. The Dolphins doubled their lead five and one-half minutes later as sophomore attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored from 10 yards in front of the goal with a behind-the-back shot off a pass from junior attackman Tyler Prevost (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart). Button registered another behind-the-back goal with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter from the right edge of the crease off a feed from junior attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy).
Senior midfielder Nick Blumer (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) extended Le Moyne's lead to four with a bouncing shot from 15 yards out 1:11 into the second quarter.
Saint Michael's got on the scoreboard with 12:02 remaining in the second quarter as Pete Donnally recorded an unassisted goal. Tim McDonald pulled the Purple Knights within 4-2 with 29 seconds left in the half off a pass from Max Zuccarini.
Le Moyne scored twice in the opening six minutes of the third quarter to regain its four-goal lead. Blumer sent his 14th goal of the campaign into the top right corner of the goal with 12:47 to go in the third quarter. Freshman midfielder Alec Westerhoff (Lagrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township/Bridgton Academy) netted his eighth goal of the year with 9:04 left to give the Dolphins a 6-2 advantage.
Sennett pushed his team's lead to five for the first time at the 11:57 mark of the fourth quarter with a goal from 15 yards out off a drive from outside the restraining line.
Donnally answered 61 seconds later from just off the front of the crease after taking a feed from Paul Tortora, Jr.
Sennett finished off Le Moyne's scoring in the game with 6:58 remaining after faking out his defender and firing a shot inside the left post.
McDonald ended the scoring in the contest with his 10th goal of the season with 32 seconds remaining.
