Lees-mcrae vs. Saint Andrews

The Game Story:
BANNER ELK, N.C. - St. Andrews improved to 2-0 in the Deep South Conference with an 11-10 victory at Lees-McRae Saturday.

St. Andrews (3-4) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with back-to-back goals from freshman Travis Hill. The Knights took a 3-1 lead in the first period and stretched the gap to 7-2 by halftime.

St. Andrews held on to its five-goal lead in the third period, but a three-minute stick penalty gave Lees-McRae (0-8) a boost in the final period. The Bobcats scored two goals during the three-minute penalty to come within reach at 10-7.

With 10:42 left in the contest, Knight junior Keith Belward scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner to put St. Andrews up 11-7. Junior Pat Haley recorded his second assist of the day on the play.

The Bobcats retaliated with three goals of their own, including their final goal with 52 seconds remaining, but the Knights held on for the victory.

Belward and junior Steve Guarini tallied two goals apiece while senior Mike McCarthy added one goal and a team-high three assists. Senior Marcus Colon paced Lees-McRae with three goals and five assists. Freshman Zack Bridges had three goals.

The Knights return to Deep South Conference action Saturday at Catawba. Game time is 7 p.m.
