Lees-mcrae vs. Belmont Abbey

The Game Story:
Miles Elliott scored a career-high four goals and Michael Brown had two goals and five assists as the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team won its second-straight game with a 15-6 victory over Lees-McRae this afternoon at Queens Sports Complex. The Abbey improves to 4-5 overall and evens its Conference Carolinas ledger at 2-2, while Lees-McRae falls to 1-7 overall and remains winless in Conference Carolinas with an 0-3 mark.

Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 32-29 and held a 52-40 advantage in ground balls as Elliott led all scorers with four goals on five shots. Jedd Gardner added three, while Brown, Austin Whitesell and Dave DiLuigi all had a pair. Brian Watson and Tom Ottman had one each. Brown posted five assists, while Whitesell had four. Douglas Lipka and Brendan Wood both had one.

Lees-McRae received two goals each from Brett Yusiewicz and Brandon Marks, while Derin Vacca and Ryan LeBlanc both had one. Landon Guntman, Vacca and Yusiewicz all had one assist.

The Abbey controlled the entire game as it led 8-0 at the half, scoring four goals in each of the first two periods. Its defense did not allow a Lees-McRae shot in the second quarter. The Abbey added four more goals in the third and three more in the fourth.

Defensively, the Abbey caused 11 turnovers as Whitesell and Tristan Keas both led the way with two. Matt Malloy led the way with six ground balls, while Keas and DiLuigi both had four.

Tony Kikola made two saves and collected three ground balls in the first half, before giving way to Merrick Reiland in the final 30 minutes. Reiland made five saves and collected two ground balls.
