|Gaffney, SC - The second-ranked Limestone College Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2002 campaign with a 16-6 victory over conference foe Mars Hill College.|
Limestone jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. In the first quarter, the Saints were lead by the potent attack
unit of Nick Carlson, Devan Spilker, Bobby Woody, and Jason Randolph each of whom scored in the opening quarter. The Saints defense lead by Travis Gillespie and
Matt Malloy was able to put the clamps on the Lions. Limestone is now 1-0 overall and in the Deep South Conference standings. Mars Hill falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1
in Deep South Conference standings.
Junior Devan Spilker lead all Saints in the scoring column with five goals and one assist. Senior captain Nick Carlson added four goals and one assist. Sophomore Nick
Delonga who was 18 for 18 facing off initiated many of Limestone's scoring opportunities. Delonga lead the team with 12 ground balls also. Junior captain Matt Malloy
put a stop to any momentum gained by Mars Hill with many of his 12 saves made at close range.
Mars Hill goalie Chris Kingston kept the Lions in the game with his 15 saves. Sophomore attack Sean Humphreys also had a productive day for Mars Hill by tallying
three goals and one assist.
Limestone will be back in action next Friday, March 1st versus St. Vincent's College. Game time is 2:00 P. M. at Saints Field.
