| GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Limestone College men's lacrosse team upset No. 10 Wheeling Jesuit, 13-5, on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the first victory over a ranked opponent for the Saints this season while ending the Cardinals' six-game win streak. Limestone jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter, allowing only one Cardinal goal and ended the quarter with a 6-1 advantage. The Saints outscored the visitors, 5-1, in the second quarter to enter the second half up 11-2. Wheeling Jesuit's defense held the Saints' attack to only two goals in the second half, as the Cardinals rallied to score three more goals in the final quarter. The Saints had 37 shots compared to the visitors' 30 for the match. Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) led Limestone with six goals. Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada) and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) each scored twice, while Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, Md.), Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.), and Alex Callihan (Centreville, Va.) had a goal a piece. Goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a solid performance with nine saves for the game. Verrilli, Brad Patridge (Dublin, Ohio), and Spilker recorded an assists, while Harley Beekman (Amsterdam, N.Y.) had two. |
