Limestone vs. Wingate

The Game Story:
GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Saints lacrosse team lost a tough game to
conference-rival Wingate University on Saturday at Saints Field,
16-11. The Bulldogs' climb to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in Deep South
Conference play, while Limestone stands at 5-5 overall (5-2 DSC).



While Limestone got off to a solid start with Harley Beekman
(Amsterdam, N.Y.), scoring the game's first goal off the opening
face-off, and Ryan Verrilli (Manassas, Va.) scoring less than a
minute later, the visitors answered with three back-to-back goals.
Both teams ended up with three goals in the first period, but
Wingate gradually pulled away in the second, outscoring Limestone,
3-2. The Bulldogs had 10 goals to Limestone's six in the remaining
two periods for the win.



For the Saints, Verrilli had three goals, as Brad Patridge (Dublin,
Ohio), Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada), and Beekman each
scored two. Alex Callihan (Centreville, Va.) and Lee Park (Victoria,
British Columbia) also recorded goals. Patridge dished out two
assists, while Drew Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada), David Hagel
(Oviedo, Fla.) and MacLeod tallied assists. Goalkeeper Marty Ward
(Syracuse, N.Y.) posted seven saves.



Chris Manwaring (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) had a
game-high five goals, while Kyle Costello (Wilmington, N.C.) and
Stephen Torkington (Coronado, Calif.) scored three, Dan Leber
(Orlando, Fla.) tallied three, and John Martin (Raleigh, N.C.),
Bryan Safarik (Vancouver, British Columbia), and Ryan Otterblad
(Dumfries, Va.) added a goal a piece. Goalkeeper Evan Watts
(Winston-Salem, N.C.) recorded 16 saves for the match.



Limestone travels to Laurinburg, N.C., to play St. Andrews on April
5 at 6 p.m.
