Mars Hill vs. Merrimack

The Game Story:
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team lost their second game of the season to Merrimack College Tuesday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC fell to 5-2 on the season while the Warriors improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 2-0 start on goals by David Hodgins (Windor, Ontario Canada) and Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) within the first minute of play. Merrimack answered scoring three unanswered goals in the frame to take a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish. The Warriors out scored MHC, 5-2 in the second quarter to take a 8-4 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

After Merrimack won the third stanza, 3-1, the fourth quarter saw each team score three goals apiece to make the final tally, 14-8, in favor of the Warriors.

Greg Rogowski led Merrimack with a game high six goals. He added an assist and three ground balls. Jo Pisano and David Robinson followed scoring two goals each. Cory Spinale played the entire game in goal for the Warriors and made 16 saves facing 34 shots.

Danny Farmer led MHC with three goals followed by Hodgins with a pair of goals and an assist. Eric Benesch (Bloomingdale, Ontario, Canada) provided his teammates with three assists in the contest. Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) also played the entire 60 minutes in goal for the Lions and made 12 saves facing 45 shots.

Merrimack out shot the Lions, 45-34. MHC edged Merrimack in ground balls, 39-38, while the Warriors held a 14-11 advantage in face-offs won. Merrimack was 3-11 on extra man opportunities while MHC was 0-3.

Mars Hill play at DSC rival Florida Southern on March 21. Game time in Lakeland, Fla., is set for 1 p.m.
