| Mars Hill, NC – Marc Mackides (Media, PA) scored four goals and recorded three assists to lead Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) to a 16-7 victory over the Lions of Mars Hill College in Meares Stadium Tuesday night. The game was played in 20-degree weather with periodic heavy snow showers during the game. NDNU improved to 2-0 on the season while the Lions fell to 0-3.|
The teams were tied 2-2 after the first quarter and then Matt Marr (Salt Lake City, UT) scored what would prove to be the game winner at the 6:05 mark. NDNU out scored MHC 5-to-2 in the second period to take a 7-4 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Anthony Triolo (Hicksville, NY) cut NDNU lead to 7-5 with 11:09 left in the third frame on an assist by Michael Wigdzinski (Hicksville, NY). NDNU then reeled off five unanswered goals to lead 12-5 going into the final stanza. NDNU scored three more goals before the Lions got back on the board at the 5:31 mark when Xavier Noel (Green Bay, WI) scored on a pass from Miles Robinson (Hicksville, NY). Andrew Chapman (Toronto, Ontario) scored the Lions’ last goal with 29 seconds left in regulation. His goal was assisted by Jack Riggins (Charlottesville, VA).
Matt Holthaus (Churchville, MD) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lions making 16 saves. Mike Ferrari (Port Washington, NY) also played the entire game in the net for NDNU making 14 saves in the contest.
MHC will return to action on March 5 when they travel to Louisville, KY to play Bellarmine University. Game time is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
