Mars Hill vs. Saint Leo

The Game Story:
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team moved into sole position of first place in the Deep South Conference with a 12-11 overtime victory over visiting Saint Leo Friday evening in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the DSC. SLU fell to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in the league.

MHC jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first half, enjoying a 6-0 advantage before Joe Guerin scored SLU's first goal at the 4:48 mark of the second quarter. The second half saw MHC try and fight off a Saint Leo scoring frenzy.

SLU out scored the Lions 4-2 in the third frame and 6-2 in the final quarter to send the game into the extra period knotted at 11-all. SLU won the face-off to start the overtime period but a Kyle Marceau turnover was picked up by Andrew Hewett (Lexington, Va) at the 2:08 mark to set up the game winning score by Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) with 1:25 on the clock in the first overtime period. It was Danny Farmer's fourth game-winning goal this season. MHC is 2-0 in overtime games. The Lions defeated Seton Hill on February 25, 15-14. Danny Farmer the game-winner in that contest as well.

Danny Farmer led all scorers with four goals. He added the same number of ground balls and a caused turnover. T.J. Cowx (Delta, British Columbia, Canada) followed with three goals and two ground balls. Brent Hann (Fallston, Md.) added one goal and two assists. Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) played the entire 62:35 in goal for MHC and made 18 saves.

Benjamin Brigham and Luke Baruch led SLU with three goals apiece. Mark Dargon scored two goals and had a game high four assists in the loss. David Erdman also played the entire contest in goal for SLU and made 10 saves.

MHC out shot SLU, 35-34 while SLU won the ground ball battle, 42-37. SLU won 18-26 face-offs and went 0-4 on extra man opportunities. MHC was 1-4 on EMO.

Mars Hill will host DSC rival Rollins College on Sunday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
