The Game Story:
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' lacrosse team defeated Birmingham Southern 15-4 in their season opener Sunday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Farmer brothers combined for seven goals and eight assists in the victory. BSC fell to 0-1 on the year.

MHC opened the contest impressively scoring five unanswered goals in the first quarter. The Lions then out scored BSC 6-1 in the second frame to take a 11-1 lead into the intermission.

The second half saw less scoring as MHC won the third stanza 3-2 before the teams tied in the final quarter 1-all to make the final tally, 15-4.

The Lions out shot BSC 35-26, edged the Panthers in ground balls, 35-32 and won the face-off battle, 15-8. Neither team could convert on extra man opportunities. MHC went 0-3 while BSC was 0-7.

Mars Hill's Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) led all scorers with four goals and five assists. Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) followed with three goals and the same number of assists. Eric Benesch (Bloomingdale, Ontario) and T.J. Cowx (Delta, British Columbia) tallied two goals and a pair of assists apiece. Dylan Price (York, Pa.) played 45 minutes in goal for MHC and made seven saves. Spencer Stobbe (Edmonton, Alberta) played the final 15 minutes in the net and made three saves.

Matt Ivie led BSC with two goals. D.J. Ward followed with a goal and an assist. Cameron Overton played 49:26 in goal for the Panthers and made eight saves. Andrew Huffman finished the game (10:34) in goal and made two saves.

MHC will host St. Andrews College next Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
