Mercyhurst vs. Wheeling Jesuit

The Game Story:
Erie, Pa. - #4 Mercyhurst snapped a late first quarter 2-2 tie and went on from there to down Wheeling Jesuit 20-4 Wednesday afternoon at Tullio Field. The Lakers, winners of their last three contests, improved to 9-2 while the Cardinals dropped to 6-3.

Mercyhurst got goals from Mike Bartlett and Adam Mulherin in the first five minutes to take a 2-0 lead. But the Cardinals tied the game on back-to-back goals by Trever Veres, the second coming with just under five minutes left in the opening 15 minutes. Mercyhurst took a time-out at that point and the move paid immediate dividends when Matt Spahr and David Osier found the back of the net before the quarter ended.

Mercyhurst increased its lead to 7-3 at intermission before outscoring the Cardinals 13-1 in the second half, including the final nine goals of the game

Mercyhurst outshot Wheeling 47-26 and had a sizeable 35-18 advantage in ground balls. The Lakers used all available players including goaltenders Mike Bringley, Jason Lashomb, Matt Campanelli, and Chris Davis.

Bryon Lindner and Mulherin scored four goals apiece while Jim Mullaley joined Bartlett and Osier with two goals each. Ryan Arnold had three helpers.

Starter Bringley, who played nearly 48 minutes, improved to 8-2 and was credited with seven of the Lakers' eleven saves,

Mercyhurst will resume New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) play Saturday when #2 C.W. Post visits for a 1:00pm comntest.
