The Game Story:
Freshman midfielder Mike Fidler (Billerica, MA) and Senior tri-captain Tom DeCourcey (Wiscasset, ME) combined for seven goals to lead Merrimack (2-3, 1-2) to an 11-1 victory AIC (0-2, 0-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 lacrosse action. Entering the game without a goal, Fidler erupted for four scores including two in the third quarter. DeCourcey added a hat trick as the Warriors rolled to their first conference victory of the season. Stephen Mullett tallied the lone goal for the visiting Yellow Jackets.

After five minutes of scoreless play, DeCourcey put the Warriors on the board at the 9:07 mark of the first quarter. Matt O?Neil (Malden, MA) set up the score and was credited with the first of his four assists on the afternoon. The Warrior offense generated two more scores over the next 4:15. Joe Picariello (Sandwich, MA) scored the second goal, utilizing his speed to win a one-on-one battle in front of the net at the 7:46 mark. Fidler made it a 3-0 score, scoring off a pass from John Harrigan (Levittown, NY). Harrigan had a solid afternoon, netting a goal and assisting on two others. In the second quarter, five different Merrimack players scored and the hosts opened up an 8-0 lead at the break.

AIC broke into the scoring column at the 10:24 mark of the third quarter, Stephen Mullett (W. Springfield, MA) scored off a directing pass from Ed Carson (Cheshire, CT). However, Fidler was around the net all afternoon for the Warriors and the freshman put the game away with back-to-back goals at the end of the third quarter that put the home team in command with a 10-1 lead. DeCourcey added a goal with 11:12 remaining to close out the scoring. Bill McCarthy (Ipswich, MA) and Brendan O?Gara (San Francisco, CA) split the goaltending duties for the Warriors, combining for two saves. Mike Martinez (Taunton, MA) stopped 18 shots between the pipes for AIC and was under constant pressure all afternoon. Merrimack will visit Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
