The Game Story:
03/09/2007 - Bears improve to 3-0 with 16-3 win over St. Andrews Presbyterian College

Freshman Austin Carino (Huntington, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals and sophomore Kevin Hennessy (West Babylon, N.Y.) added two goals and three assists as the NYIT men’s lacrosse team defeated visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College 16-3 this afternoon. The Bears improve to 3-0 on the season while the loss drops the Knights to 3-2 overall.

Graduate Paul Flowers (London, England) got the Bears off to a 2-0 lead with consecutive unassisted goals just :36 seconds apart at 9:33 and 8:57 of the first quarter. Flowers netted his third goal of the game and gave the Bears a 5-0 lead off of an assist by sophomore Jeremy Hobson (Riverhead, N.Y.) at 12:47 of the second quarter. Carino followed with consecutive goals over the next :30 seconds, to make it a 7-0 game. St. Andrews’ Zach Mryncza scored the last goal of the second quarter for either team with 6:55 remaining and the Bears went into halftime ahead 7-1. Carino opened the third quarter for the Bears by teaming up with Hennessy to score two more consecutive goals at 8:35 and 7:57, pushing the lead to 9-1. Mryncza scored his second of the game in the fourth quarter for the Knights to make the score 13-3, before three different Bears scored to provide the final margin

Flowers finished with three goals, sophomore Jeremy Hobson (Riverhead, N.Y.) added three assists and freshman Jake Delillo (Yorktown, N.Y) added a score and two assists. Junior Jared Garcia (Bethpage, N.Y.) won 11-14 face-offs in the victory.

Mryncza finished up with two goals and an assist for the Knights in the loss. Nate Hull picked up a team-high eight ground balls.

The Bears return to action on Sunday, March 11, hosting St. Michaels College for a 1 p.m. game.
