The Game Story:
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 13, 2013) - No. 8 NYIT Lacrosse earned its fourth straight victory and improved to 9-2 on the season with a 21-5 victory over Dominican (N.Y.) in East Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon. It was the Bears (9-2, 3-1 ECC) first 20-plus goal victory since the 2010 season when NYIT defeated Chestnut Hill 28-1. The Chargers dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.

The contest was played at DaSilva Memorial Field on the campus of St. John's (N.Y.) as part of a "Jack Kaley Day" doubleheader. Hall of Fame coach Kaley was honored prior to the start of the St. John's/Villanova match.

ECC Player of the Week sophomore Luke Miller (Mastic, N.Y.) added seven points to his season tally (57). He scored three goals and had four assists. Junior Cory Triola (Levittown, N.Y.) and Shawn Murphy (Holbrook, N.Y.) each had hat tricks in the outing. Senior Joe Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.), the ECC Goalkeeper of the Week, earned the win to improve to 9-2 on the season.

Despite Dominican earning the first face-off win, NYIT quickly forced a turnover and controlled the ball for most of the first half. The Bears led 11-0 at the end of the first half with Triola and Miller each notching a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of play. The game-winner was netted by A.P. Nist (Parkland, Pa.) with 6:43 to play in the first half.

The second period was evenly matched with each team scoring twice. Thomas Dertinger ended the potential shutout with an unassisted goal at the 9:58 mark. Dertinger struck again three minutes later, while Tom Marsh (Calgary, Canada) registered his first goal of the season and Ryan Seelinger (Massapequa, N.Y.) put the Bears up 13-2 at halftime. NYIT controlled 15-of-17 face-offs in the first half and held a 34-10 ground ball advantage.

Dertinger quickly got things going for the Chargers in the third period with a goal just 20 seconds into play. After seven scoreless minutes, Triola broke through the silence with his fourth goal of the game. It was dished out by Miller, his 29th assist of the season. After Marsh's second goal of the game, Triola earned his fifth goal of the game off an assist from Nist with 2:59 remaining. A litte over a minute later, Murphy netted his hat trick with a strike at 1:49. He was the third Bear to do so. NYIT led 18-3 at the end of the third.

Again, Dertinger was the first to score in the fourth to make it an 18-4 game. It was his fourth goal of the match. Dominican scored once more but the deficit was too great as NYIT held on for the victory.

NYIT returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 on the road at No. 9 Molloy. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
