| Old Westbury, NY (March 6, 2010) - NYIT men's lacrosse senior Matt Sullivan (West Islip, NY) broke the single game assist record as he dished out 11 assists in the Bears 22-3 win over Lake Erie College this afternoon in East Coast Conference action. The Bears improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league while Lake Erie drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Sullivan, who also tied the Bears record of 12 points in a single game, had a hand the Bears first nine goals, passing out eight assists and netting an unassisted score. NYIT led 9-0 in the second quarter when Lake Erie's Keegan Bal would score back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 9-2. The Bears responded by scoring the next five goals of the quarter and led 14-2 at the break. NYIT took their largest lead of the game, 22-2, late in the fourth quarter before Lake Erie scored in the final seconds to provide the final margin. Senior Austin Carino (Huntington, NY) had a game-high five goals and senior Quinn Cooke (Fairfax, VA) added four goals in the victory. The Bears dominated the action, out-shooting Lake Erie 64-19 and grabbing 59 ground balls to the Storms 29. NYIT return to action this Wednesday as they host Bentley at 3 p.m. |
