The Game Story:
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) totaled four points as the Setters came up short to #2 ranked Adelphi University Panthers 13-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the NE-10, while the Panthers improve to 7-0 and 4-0 in conference play. Adelphi got on the board early with four first quarter goals. The Setters rallied as they scored six of the next seven goals in the game to pull ahead 6-5. Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) score twice, including a man-up score, while William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) also scored twice in the run. Gebhardt capped the run with a goal at the 8:12 mark to put the Setters in the lead. The Panthers closed the half with three unanswered goals to retake an 8-6 lead at halftime. Cossidente netted an early second half goal to close the gap to within a goal with 11:52 left in the third quarter. Adelphi rallied with a pair of goals to pull ahead 10-7 midway through the third. The Setters rallied once again as Thomas Gilmore (Ridge, NY/Longwood) scored on the power play late in the third and Ryan Valdez (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) added a score early in the fourth as Pace pulled to within a goal at 10-9. The Panthers answered with a goal but Gebhardt kept the Setters' alive with a score at the 5:26 mark to make it 11-10. Adelphi held possession most of the final five minutes as they added a pair of late scores in the game. For the Setters, Gebhardt netted two goals and two assists, while Scioscia added two goals and one assist. Cossidente tallied three goals for the Setters. Timothy Izzo (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph/Franklin Pierce) played 60 minutes in net, recording 20 saves. The Setters hit the road this weekend as they travel to Bentley University on Saturday, March 29 to face the Falcons at 3 pm in an NE-10 match-up.
