The Game Story:
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) netted four goals and two assists as the Setters defeated the American International Yellow Jackets 14-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters improve to 2-4 on the season and 1-4 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-10 and 1-6 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals in the first four minutes. The Setters rallied with a pair of Scioscia goals to tie the game late in the quarter. American International netted a late goal to lead 3-2 after one quarter. The Setters outscored the Yellow Jackets 3-0 in the second quarter as Brandon Donnellan (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) scored on the fast break to tie the score at three. Scioscia and Ryan Valdez (Huntington, NY/John H. Glenn) each scored in the final minute of the half to give Pace a 5-3 lead at the break. American International scored early in the second half but the Setters answered less than 30 seconds later as Adam Mirkin (Mt. Kisco, NY/Ossining) scored off a Valdez assist at the 11:05 mark for a 6-4 lead. Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and Mirkin added goals 14 seconds apart midway through the quarter as the Setters pushed ahead to an 8-4 lead. The teams traded goals late in the quarter with Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) netting a score and Valdez adding a goal early in the fourth quarter to extend to a 10-5 advantage. The Yellow Jackets rallied early in the fourth as they netted three unanswered goals to cut the score down to 10-8 with 10:39 left in the game. Pace responded with three straight goals to go back up by five goals. Mirkin, Gebhardt and Scioscia all tallied scores for the Setters in the run. American International netted two more goals but Mirkin added a score with 1:11 left in the game as the Setters took home their first conference win of the season. For the Setters, Scioscia led the way with six points, while Mirkin finished with four goals and one assist. Gebhardt and Valdez each tallied two goals and two assists for Pace. In net, Timothy Izzo (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph/Franklin Pierce) played 60 minutes and recorded 11 saves. Pace returns to action on Saturday, April 6 as they travel to face the Saint Michael's Purple Knights in NE-10 action at 1 pm.
