April 26, 2013
The Game Story:
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A slow start turned into a flurry of late goals led 11th-ranked Pfeiffer University to a 10-5 victory over Rollins College in the 2013 men’s lacrosse regular season finale on Friday afternoon. The Falcons finish the regular season at 13-4 overall and will wait word on a potential bid into the NCAA national tournament in two weeks.
Each team would trade late goals in the opening Robert Hope (Peterborough, ONTARIO) scored the game’s first goal with five minutes remaining in the period while the Tars’ Will Diamond (Delray Beach, FL) netted the equalizer with 1:26 to play. Pfeiffer would score twice in the second quarter taking a minimal 3-1 lead into the half as Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY) and Cole Sheen (Edmonton, ALBERTA) each tallied midway through the period.
Both teams would register a pair of third quarter goals starting with Hope scoring back-to-back 29 seconds apart starting with 5:18 to go while Will Hauver (Towson, MD) and Austin Ricci (Winter Park, FL) scored for Rollins.
In the fourth, Khalid Stukes (Alexandria, VA) took the opening faceoff and went the distance in just seven seconds to give the Falcons a 6-3 advantage. Rollins’ final goal would come 37 seconds later from A.J. Gogan (Bexley, OH) as the Falcons scored the final four goals for the 10-4 margin. Kory Lutes (Orlando, FL) and Spencer Allen (St. Catherine’s, ONTARIO) along with two from Cole Paciejewski (Prince Georgia, BRITISH COLUMBIA) ended scoring on the day.
Pfeiffer’s Mike Triolo (Toronto, ONTARIO) set a new school-record in the win with his 11 groundballs to give him a total of 105 on the year. Triolo’s 105 groundballs breaks a school-record that was set by Dan Ciaravino’s 104 back in 1991.
In goal, Hayden Kirk (Farmingdale, NY) would make nine saves in the win while Tars keeper Andrew Sheerin (Huntington, NY) single-handedly kept Rollins around making 22 saves in net.
