|Manchester, N.H. (April 24) -- Seven different players scored for Saint Anselm as the Hawks wrapped up the regular season with a 14-9 win over visiting American International on Friday afternoon at Grappone Stadium. The Hawks advance to the Northeast-10 Tournament for the third straight season. Prior to the game, six members of the Saint Anselm Senior Class were honored as part of the program's Senior Day activities.|
The hosts jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead after one period and took a 7-4 lead into the halftime break. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to within two goals twice in the second half, including at 10-8 late in the third quarter. The Saint Anselm offense came alive though with four unanswered goals to put the game out of reach at 14-8. AIC added a late goal to account for the 14-9 final.
Senior Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) led the offense with four goals and Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) added a hat trick for the Hawks. Dan MacIssac and Nicholas Brett each had a hat trick for the visitors.
Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made six saves in the win, while Mark Taylor had 12 saves in the defeat.
Saint Anselm is now 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast-10, while AIC completes the season winless at 0-12 overall and 0-9 in league play. The Hawks will likely face Saint Michael's on Tuesday, April 28th at a location to be determined. The Purple Knights have one game remaining vs. Assumption, along with the Southern NH/Le Moyne game affecting the final playoff seeding.
