Saint Anselm 11, Assumption 6

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore attack JEFF DUNKLE (Exeter, NH/Kimball Union) scored four goals to lead Saint Anselm College past Assumption College, 11-6, in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action WEDNESDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The Greyhounds were led by sophomore attack NICHOLAS VIOLANDI (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) with two goals.

Saint Anselm built a 3-0 lead after one period as senior midfielder MATT SURETTE (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield) and senior attack CHRIS MURPHY (Winchester, MA/Winchester) scored unassisted goals and Surette added another on a feed from Dunkle.

The Greyhounds however came right back with three straight goals in the second period by junior attack KEVIN KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian), freshman attack WILL LANGEVIN (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle) and Violandi. Dunkle's first goal with 32 seconds left in the half gave the Hawks a 4-3 halftime advantage.

The Greyhounds scored two quick goals to open the thrid period to move to a 5-4 lead. Sophomore attack JOHN MURPHY (Walpole, MA/Walpole) from Klaskin and Violandi unassisted gave the home team the advantage. Saint Anselm led by Dunkle and Murphy scored six straight goals to take control of the game.

Assumption outshot the Hawks for the game, 40-36, and held a slight advantage in ground balls (29-28). Dunkle had six ground balls for the Hawks, while freshman midfielder CHRIS NOYES (Tewksbury, MA/Central Catholic) (seven ground balls) and Langevin (six ground balls) led the Greyhounds.

Sophomore goalkeeper DAN FLYNN (Wakefield, MA/Wakfield) made 17 saves for Saint Anselm, while junior DAN SHEA (Wrentham, MA/King Philips) made 14 saves for the Greyhounds.

Assumption is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while Saint Anselm is 3-2 overall and 1-0. The Greyhounds are at conference rival Merrimack College Saturday at 4 p.m.
