| Men's Lacrosse Knocks Off Hawks In Quarterfinals, 8-6; Head To #1 Le Moyne Friday COLCHESTER, Vt.- Senior captain Mike Boerma (Concord, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) scored three goals and five assists in the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals to lift the Purple Knights (8-6) past the Hawks of Saint Anselm (8-7), 8-6, on Duffy Field Tuesday afternoon in Colchester. Saint Michael's earns the right to play at #1 Le Moyne College on Friday, May 2 at 4 p.m. in the conference semifinals. With three goals from Boerma in the first period, Saint Michael's jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Saint Anselm scored two unanswered goals. With a 6-3 lead at the break, the Purple Knights would surrender two third period goals to enter the final frame at 6-5. Senior Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to solidify a third consecutive semifinal berth at Le Moyne. With the win, Saint Michael's secured their fourth straight winning season under head coach Paul Schimoler. Senior goalkeeper Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) stopped 10 shots in net, including four in the fourth on 13 shots from Saint Anselm. For the Hawks, junior Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) scored a hat trick of goals while classmate Matt Surrette (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) netted a pair of scores in the first half. Freshman net-minder Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) matched Hannon's 10 saves, seven of which were in the first half. The Purple Knights head to undefeated Le Moyne on Friday at 4 p.m. to avenge a 14-2 loss suffered earlier this year. |
