The Game Story:
COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team (7-6, 6-4 NE-10) ended their 2008 regular season on a winning note with a 10-6 season finale win over Pace (7-6, 4-4 NE-10) on Wednesday at Duffy Field. Led by senior attacker Greg Lazarus (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and his four goals, the Purple Knights jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead and played sound defense with two shutout quarters from senior Jeff Hannon (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham).

Saint Michael's Lazarus scored his 29th goal on the season to solidify the Purple Knights win Wednesday afternoon, most likely giving the Purple Knights a fourth seed entering the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 29. Awaiting results of the Southern New Hampshire-Bentley match-up, the Purple Knights close out 2008 with their fourth straight winning season under head coach Paul Schimoler.

Also contributing four points for the Purple Knights was senior attacker Mike Boerma (Concord, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) with two goals and two assists. Junior Jake Previte (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) registered the game-winner and sophomore Charlie Niznansky (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) tallied a goal and an assist. In net, Hannon made eight saves to improve his season mark to 7-6 and earn his fourth straight winning season.

For the Setters, seniors Justin Page (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Ben Volen (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) each netted a pair of goals, while net-minder Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) stopped seven shots on net.

Pace will close out their season with two more road games at Merrimack and Saint Anselm on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, respectively.
