Saint Vincent vs. Mount St Joseph

The Game Story:
The Bearcats picked up their first win of the season in a big way, defeating visiting Mount St. Joseph 22-9 at Chuck Noll Field.

Freshman Will Delanoy and junior Zach Wilfong each scored five goals on the day, as the Bearcats outshot the Lions 56-29 on the afternoon.

Wilfong scored the day's first goal four minutes into play, assisted by Delanoy, and then Delanoy scored three goals over the next 90 seconds to give SVC a 4-0 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Lions got on the board with 6:30 to go in the first frame, before SVC's Ryan Kearney found the net twice and Wilfong once again to give the Bearcats the 7-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

The second quarter featured a flurry of scoring activity from both sides, as Kearney, Lou Fries, Pat Bursch, Vincenzo Disantis all scored in the first three minutes to increase the Bearcat lead to 11-2.

Mount St. Joseph answered with four unanswered goals ovver the next five minutes, before Delanoy, Wilfong, and Neil Quinn all found the net over the final 3:30 to put SVC up 14-6.

After the Lions scored two minutes into the third, SVC answered back in a big way yet again. Bursch and Jake Dick scored for the Bearcats over the next two minutes, before Wilfong tallied a pair of goals over a 30-second span to push the SVC lead to 18-8 with two minutes left in the third. Delanoy then scored his fifth just 45 seconds later, and after 45 minutes of play, the Bearcats led 19-8.

SVC outscored the Lions 3-1 over the fourth quarter, with Bearcat goals coming from Dick, Will Selmayer, and Nick Aspiotoes, as the Bearcats coasted to up their record to 1-2 on the year.

Delanoy enjoyed a monster game all around, as he added five assists to his five goals to finish with an SVC freshman record 10 points. Wilfong finished with seven points, as he recorded a pair of helpers, while Neil Quinn (1 goal, three assists) and Kearney (three goals, one assist) each posted four-point days.

With two goals and an assist, Dick tallied three points, while Aspiotes, Disantis, and Fries tallied a goal and an assist apiece to finish with two points each.

Jon McMahon earned the win in goal, posting nine saves. Wilfong led SVC with seven ground balls, while Disantis, Mark Duman, Josh McCloskey, and Clark Williams scooping up three apiece.

The Lions (2-3) were led on the scoresheet by Chris Uselmann, who scored three goals, while Anderson Morgan and Taylor Samuel each had two goals and an assist.

The win was SVC's third in as many tries against the College of Mount Joseph. The Bearcats will now return to the road, facing Indiana's Trine University on Saturday and Adrian College in Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
