|WHEELING, W. Va. (Mar. 21, 2008) – Junior attacker Greg Cerar (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied six goals and added an assist as fourth-ranked C.W. Post defeated Wheeling Jesuit, 15-4, in a non-conference men’s lacrosse at Patriots Stadium.|
The Pioneers improve to 7-1 on the season while Wheeling Jesuit evens up at 3-3.
The Cardinals struck first in the first quarter when junior midfielder Joe Joliat scored an unassisted goal at 13:58.
The Pioneers answered back minutes later when Cerar scored his first of the game on a flick shot from junior attacker Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) at 10:11. Cerar scored his second less than a minute later unassisted as the Pioneers scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Cardinals as they outscored C.W. Post by a 3-1 margin and trailed 7-4 at the half.
The Pioneers dominated the second half with nine unanswered goals, including four from Cerar and two apiece from senior attackers Rob Renetta (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Thomas Maloney (Great Neck, N.Y.).
Renetta finished the game with three goals while Maloney and sophomore midfielder Joe Meo (Sayville, N.Y.) each had two in the game.
The Cardinals boasted four players who each had a goal a piece in the game.
The Pioneers outshot the Cardinals by a 49-21 margin and also held a 38-17 advantage in ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) made six saves in goal for the Pioneers while the Cardinals’ Joe Sims made 16 saves in net.
C.W. Post will play at New York Institute of Technology on Mar. 29 at 1 p.m.
