Wheeling Jesuit vs. Notre Dame De Namur

The Game Story:
April 20 Ė Senior attackman Brad Matzek scored four goals to set the single season record and help the Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Wheeling Jesuit. The Argos never trailed in the game, using a big first period to improve to 10-2 on the season.

Matzek opened the contest with a goal at the 13:32 mark to give him 40 for the season and pass Marc Mackrides for the schoolís scoring record. The Argos kept the offensive attack going, scoring two goals in ten seconds to push the lead to 3-0 with 12:49 left in the first quarter. After a Wheeling Jesuit goal trimmed the difference to two, NDNU closed out the period with the final three goals to go up 6-1.

NDNU kept the scoring going in the second with Jesse Painterís third goal of the game. The Cardinals would score the next two before the Argos once again scored the periodís final three goals. In the second half, WJU opened with a pair of goals to move the score to 10-5. The two teams would then trade the gameís final five goals to preserve a 13-7 Argonaut victory.

Matzek finished the day with four goals to push his season total to 43 and collected a pair of assists. Painter tacked on three goals to record his fourth hat trick of the season while Cam Foss and Nick Peterson tallied two goals apiece. Tim Campeau register a goal and two assists with Conrad Clevlen adding the teamís final goal. Cory Upshaw and Steven Laird tied for the game high in groundballs with six apiece.

Matthew Coric was excellent in goal once again for the Argonauts recording 16 saves, including eight in the four quarter to stop the Cardinals comeback attempt. NDNU outshot Wheeling Jesuit 46-39 for the game and held a 35-13 advantage in the first half. The Argos also won the groundball battle 43-31 while WJU won 13 of 23 face-offs.

Eric Jenkins led the WJU offense with three goals while four other Cardinals added one score apiece. Goalie Joe Sims made 12 saves in net to keep the game close.

The Argos close out the season Tuesday afternoon against Seton Hill.
