| Charlotte, N.C.----Wingate University senior attack Derek Watts (Winston-Salem, N.C.) posted eight goals and four assists to lead the Bulldogs to a 22-4 NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse victory over Lees-McRae College Saturday at the Elon Recreation Center. Wingate gives first-year head coach Michael Lawson his initial victory at the Bulldog helm. “Derek stepped up today and played like he can,” Lawson says. “The guys around him gave him an opportunity to shine.” Bulldog sophomore attack Cory Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) and freshman attack Ryan Vogrig (Vancouver, B.C.) had three goals and two assists each for Wingate (1-1 overall). For Lees-McRae, sophomore midfield Dalton Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) had two goals. The Bobcats are 0-3 overall. “The guys are starting to develop and understand what we are asking them to do,” Lawson says. “We have a long way to go…but I am very pleased with our efforts today.” |
