Wingate vs. Saint Leo

The Game Story:
Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men~Rs lacrosse team used a strong fourth
quarter to pull away for a 15-7 NCAA Division II victory over Saint Leo University
Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field on the Wingate
campus.

With the victory, Wingate improves to 4-1 overall on the young season. Saint Leo
falls to 2-5 overall. The Bulldogs host Molloy (N.Y.) College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Lions return home to entertain SUNY Plattsburg Monday at 4 p.m.

The number 10 team in the latest NCAA Division II poll, Wingate broke a 6-6 tie with
nine unanswered goals to take the victory. The hosts led 6-5 after three quarters of
play.

The Bulldogs received a three-minute stick penalty to start the fourth quarter. The
Lions tied the game at 6-6 to take advantage of the extra-man opportunity. Wingate
scored two goals a man down to take control. Bulldog junior attack Bryan Safarik
(Vancouver, British Columbia) had four goals and two assists during Wingate~Rs 9-0
run.

Safarik finished the day with five goals and two assists. Freshman attack Dan Leber
(Orlando, Fla.) supported Safarik~Rs effort with two goals and two assists of his own
for the Bulldogs.


For Saint Leo, junior attack Ryan Harris (Vestal, N.Y.) had three goals and two
assists to lead the Lions. Freshman midfielder Mark Dargon (Newton, Mass.) added two
goals for Saint Leo.
