| MANCHESTER, N.H. - Senior Jon Habel (Hingham, MA) totaled two goals and three assists and junior Spencer Rennick (Peabody, MA) added a goal and four assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 13-8 victory over Assumption College here tonight in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action. The host Penmen snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the league. Assumption saw its two-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the league. Junior John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA) helped the Penmen cause with three goals, while senior Brian Molyneaux (West Hartford, CT) netted two goals. Delanoy also collected a team-high six ground balls and won nine face-offs on the night. Junior Brandon MacNeil (Surrey, BC) paced the Greyhounds with a goal and three assists, while senior Neil Donnelly (Boylston, MA) scored two goals. SNHU out shot the Greyhounds 11-6 in the first quarter, but Assumption took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. The teams traded goals midway through the second quarter, before the Penmen staged a late rally and netted three unanswered goals in the final 3:54 of the second quarter. Habel collected the rebound of his own shot and scored with just 11 seconds left in the quarter to give the Penmen a 5-3 halftime lead. Similar to the second quarter, the teams traded goals early in the frame and SNHU closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals. Sophomore Sean Ball (Salem, NH) scored with just nine seconds left in the quarter, off a pass from Habel, to give SNHU a 9-4 lead after three quarters. The Penmen outscored the Greyhounds 4-1 over the first 7:34 of the fourth quarter to secure the win. Habel's second goal of the game with 7:26 left capped the run and gave the hosts a 12-5 lead. SNHU out shot the Greyhounds in each of the four quarters and the Penmen finished with a 48-32 edge in shots overall. Senior Greg Palladino (Hingham, MA) made 11 saves for the Penmen before giving way to junior Mickey Hover (Montgomery, NJ) late in the fourth quarter. Junior Chris Bird (North Andover, MA) played the first quarter for the Greyhounds and stopped six of seven shots. Freshman Dan Shea (Wrentham, MA) played the final three quarters for the visitors and stopped 16 shots. SNHU returns to action Saturday (4/7) when it travels to Saint Michael's College for a league game at 1 p.m. Assumption hosts 10th-ranked Pace University Thursday (4/5) at 5 p.m. |
