Dominican vs. Adelphi

The Game Story:
Blauvelt, N.Y. - The tenth ranked Adelphi University men's lacrosse team got a career-high 10 points from Michael Gongas, dispatching East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Dominican College 18-4, on Wednesday, March 28. The win evens Adelphi's overall record at 3-3 and brings their ECC mark to 1-0, while Dominican falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Adelphi and Dominican traded goals to open the first period, before Marc Burton found the back of the Charger net with 5:14 left to play, igniting a run of six unanswered Adelphi goals that spanned the first two quarters of action. All six goals were scored by a different player and the spurt gave Adelphi a 7-1 lead with 13:04 left to play in the second period. Dominican traded goals with Adelphi to close out the first half of action, but still trailed 9-3 heading into intermission.

The Panthers stormed out of halftime, scoring five unanswered goals in the second quarter, three by Ian Kuchta, to lead 14-3 after three periods and take any suspense out of the game. The Panthers tacked on four more goals in the fourth, while the Chargers got one, to roll to an 18-4 victory.

Freshman Kuchta led the Panthers with 7 goals , while Stephen Mortimer notched three tallies. Gongas, Tyler Burton and Jason Fietta all had two goals in the win, while Gongas added a career-high eight assists.

The Chargers were led by Alex Jones with two goals. Joe Cobis and Dan Celebre each had a goal in the loss.

The Panthers out shot the Chargers, 37-16 and had the advantage on the face-offs, 16 to 8.

Panther keeper Devin Schneiderbauer had four saves in just over three quarters of action, while Drew Smith picked up two saves. Charger keeper Joe Assante had 13 saves in the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 31 when they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to face Bentley at 12:00 pm.
