Dominican vs. Mercyhurst

The Game Story:
Orangeburg, NY (3/29/08) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team opened up East Coast Conference (ECC) play with a 9-3 loss to #10 Mercyhurst College this afternoon on the DC Lacrosse Field.

The Chargers took a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter as sophomore attacker Pat O'Shea (Dix Hills, NY) netted an unassisted goal at 11:20. Sophomore Alex Jones (St. Albert, Canada) took a pass from Kyle MacDonald (Wilbraham, MA) and scored a goal with 8:48 left in the first quarter to give DC a 2-0 lead.

The Lakers cut the lead in half with 1:27 left in the first quarter as Scott Sullivan (Westlake, OH) put one passed the Charger goalie off the assist by Trevor Rice (Fairport, NY). MC tied the game at the 12:39 mark in the second quarter as Mike Bartlett (Orchard Park, NY) scored the unassisted goal.

Dominican regained the lead as Jones netted his second goal of the game off the pass by Jesse Peterson (Saskatchewan, Canada) with 9:37 left before the intermission.

MC once again re-tied the game as Mike Thon (Penfield, NY) netted a goal with 8:41 left in the second quarter and took the lead with just under seven minutes left as Rice scored the go ahead goal.

The Lakers went on to score five unanswered goals en route to the 9-3 victory. Sullivan finished with two goals while Rice had one goal and two assists.

Jones led the Chargers with two goals.

Charger goalie Joe Assante (Hicksville, NY) had nine saves in the loss, while Laker goalie Jason LaShomb (Rush, NY) had five saves.

With the win the Lakers improve to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the ECC, while the Chargers fall to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they host New York Institute of Technology in a ECC game slated to begin at 3:30 pm on the DC Lacrosse Field.
