Queens vs. Limestone

The Game Story:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hot shooting in the first half proved to be too much for the Royals to overcome as they fell 17-6 to the No. 6 Limestone College Saints in men’s lacrosse action. The Royals’ record fell to 5-5 on the season and 0-2 in the league, while the Saints improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in Conference Carolinas.

After an Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, M.D., C. Milton Wright) goal tied the game at two with 8:09 on the clock, the Saints reeled off six goals in a row to close the first period with an 8-2 lead. Shayne Jackson and Jackson Decker led the way for Limestone notching two goals apiece in the period.

Limestone would carry that momentum into period two as they went on a 4-0 run increasing their advantage to 10, 12-2. Queens’ Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads) would find the back of the net with 3:21 to go in the half making it 12-3 at the break.

The Royals found some offensive rhythm in the third scoring three goals in a row while holding the Saints scoreless in 14 minutes and 25 seconds of play. Connor DeVoe netted a goal with 35 seconds on the clock to end the Saints’ scoring drought. His teammate, Zach Cummings would follow suit with six ticks on the board making the score 14-6 at the end of the quarter.

Limestone put the game away in the fourth finding the back of the net three times more for the win.

Queens was led by Geroy who finished the game with a hat trick, while Farkas tallied two goals. Andrew Hyland (Newtown, Conn., Fairfield Prep) took the loss in the net after getting 10 saves.

Decker, Cummings and Jackson each notched three goals to lead the Saints. Riley Loewen led in points with seven on two goals and five assists. Decker and Jackson each had two assists to add to their hat tricks for five points each. Steve Gartelman was awarded the win in goal after getting three stops.

The Royals were outshot 41-22 by the Saints this afternoon.

Queens returns to action on April 7 at Lees-McRae in game set to start at 2 p.m.
