| BELMONT, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2012) - Led by freshman Brandon Gamblin's (Lake Grove, N.Y.) five goals, NYIT men's lacrosse posted a 12-3 season opening win on the road at Notre Dame de Namur Friday afternoon. The Bears defense held the Argos scoreless for two and a half periods. The Bears came out of the gates firing, scoring three goals in the opening three minutes on excellent one-on-one moves. The Bears led 7-0 at the end of the first half. The third period started out the same with NYIT notching two more goals. However, in the eighth minute, Jordan Wagner put NDNU on the board and ended NYIT's shut out with a goal from the right side. The Argos scored twice more as NYIT tacked on three more goals to close out the contest 12-3. For the game, the Bears held a 37-21 shot advantage while also leading ground balls 30-13 and face-offs 11-7. McGee made seven stops in net for NYIT to earn the win. Seven other Bears scored one goal apiece on top of Gamblin's five goal performance. NYIT remains on the West Coast for a Sunday, Feb. 19 contest against Dominican (Calif.). Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Eastern. |
