|Belmont Abbey junior attackmen Michael Brown and Jedd Gardner both led the Crusaders with three goals, and Brown recorded three assists as the Abbey extended their winning streak to four with a 9-6 win over Catawba this afternoon. The Crusaders improve to 4-4, while the Indians fall to 2-5.|
Brown scored three goals on five shots while recording a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover. Gardner added three goals on four shots while scooping up three ground balls. In his last three games, Brown has 13 goals and 12 assists on 21 shots. Aaron Flood added two goals and Miles Elliott had the other. Brown led all players with three assists, while Flood, Gardner, Jon Fugitt and Matt Spivey each had one.
Defensively, Tom Ottman led the way with four caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Flood and Matt Roth led the Abbey with four ground balls apiece. Mark Kelske collected three ground balls and made nine saves in the net.
Catawba was led by Marty Tuohy's two goals and an assist, while four others each had a goal. Tres Pethel made five saves.
The Abbey is back in action next Wednesday when it closes out the home schedule with a game against St. Andrews Presbyterian at 4:00 p.m.
