Belmont Abbey vs. Limestone

The Game Story:
BELMONT, N.C. – Limestone junior face-off specialist Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, N.Y) won 17-of-18 attempts at the center “X” and senior midfielder Desi Gonzalez (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored a game high three goals leading the No.6 Saints to a 10-5 win at Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, March 17. The Saints, now 3-0 within Conference play, have won 22 straight league games as well as 41 consecutive South Region contests improving to 8-1 overall on the season. Belmont Abbey falls to 4-5 with Saturday serving as the Crusaders' '12 Conference opener.

Gonzalez was one of six Saints score at least one goal joined by attackman Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) and midfielder Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, British Columbia), both juniors, who each had two goals and an assist while 2012 Tewaaraton Award Nominee and senior attack Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario) totaled three points on two assists with one goal.

The Saints were plus-12 in shots with 21-of-34 shots on goal Belmont Abbey put 14 of its 22 shots on goal. Limestone senior goalie Steve Gartelman (Seaford, N.Y.) made nine saves including five in the first period and yielded five goals on the day to move his record to 8-1 on the season.

Limestone won the ground ball matchup 30-20 with Ternosky grabbing six and Gonzalez five.

In addition to limiting Belmont Abbey to only one face-off win, Saints did yield a goal in three man-down situations while in turn taking advantage on one of two opportunities.

Limestone now has a two week break from game competition with the Saints back in action on Saturday, March 31 at Queens University of Charlotte for a Conference Carolinas against the rival Royals with the opening face-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
