Belmont Abbey vs. Rollins

The Game Story:
Belmont Abbey attackers Aaron Flood, Michael Brown and Jedd Gardner combined to score 16 of the Crusaders 20 goals as Flood had six, while Brown and Gardner both had five as the Abbey won its third-straight game with a 20-4 win over visiting Rollins this afternoon. The Crusaders improve to 3-4, while the Tars fall to 2-9.

Flood scored six goals and assisted on six others for 12 points, while Brown posted five goals and five assists for the second-straight game. Gardner added five goals and an assist. The Abbey received single goals from Jon Fugitt, Brian Watson, Matt Spivey and James Regan. Fugitt posted a pair of assists, while Adam Basso, Miles Elliott, Gardner, Tom Ottman, Spivey and Watson all had one as ten different players registered at least one point on the day. Flood scored six goals on 12 shots while collecting three ground balls. Brown registered five goals on ten shots and a ground ball.

Defensively, watson led the way with nine ground balls and 11 face-off wins, while Gardner posted seven. Goalkeeper Mark Kelske made a pair of saves in three periods before giving way to Michael Burgos, who made two saves in the fourth period.

The Abbey controlled the game from the beginning, holding Rollins to just two shots in the first 30 minutes as it took a 12-0 lead at halftime. Rollins scored all of its goals in the third period, and the Abbey outscored the Tars 6-0 in the final period.

The Crusaders outshot the Tars 59-19, held a 49-25 advantage in ground balls and was four of six on extra man opportunities.

The Abbey is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Catawba at 4:00 p.m.
