| On Saturday afternoon the 12-1 men's lacrosse team hosted the 13-0 Lakers of Mercyhurst College in a conference contest. The Griffins outplayed the Lakers in the second half but could not make up the deficit created in the first and suffered a 12-9 senior day loss at home. In the first period the Griffins got on the board first with a goal by Taylor Mansfield at the 11:10 mark. Mercyhurst answered back with a goal 10 seconds later tying the game 1-1 With under 5 minutes to play the Lakers buried another goal taking a 2-1 lead. In the second period Mercyhurst continued to have the hot stick scoring three goals in a row to take a 5-1 lead at the 6:38 mark. The Griffins netted a goal seconds later moving the score 5-2 with 6:12 left on the clock. The Lakers retaliated with another two goals advancing their advantage 7-2. Matt Delmonico then put two shots past the keeper closing the gap on the Lakers 7-4 with 2:29 remaining. The Lakers snuck one more in with under a minute remaining to enter halftime leading the Griffins 8-4. In the third the Griffins started out strong scoring goals from James Delaney and Matt Delmonico making it an 8-6 contest with 8:43 on the clock. The Lakers put one in the net with 1:20 remaining to enter the last quarter leading Seton Hill by three goals 9-6. In the fourth period Sean Anderson netted a goal after 16 seconds of play making it 9-7. Mercyhurst then gained the momentum back scoring two goals to increase their lead to four tallies 11-7 with 6:07 remaining in the game. Seton Hill then took the rains back over with goals from Delaney and Mansfield to close the gap to two tallies with 2:54 on the clock. Unfortunately, the Lakes maintained control of the ball and scored one more goal before the final buzzer defeating Seton Hill 12-9. With the loss the Griffins end their regular season with a 12-2 overall record and a 6-1 in conference record. Matt Delmonico led the Seton Hill offense scoring 3 goals. James Delany and Tyler Mansfield both added two goals apiece. The Griffins will take part in the ECAC Tournament Semifinals on May 3rd. |
