(Apr. 2, 2014) Junior Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) totaled a career-high 10 points to lead the Mercy College men's lacrosse team to a 16-7 victory over Post University on Wednesday afternoon. Mercy improves to 7-3 with the win while Post drops to 3-8. Wood wasted no time in getting onto the score sheet as he took a pass from senior Ryan Elfeld (Long Beach, N.Y. / Jacksonville Univ.) and put it into the back of the net just 1:22 into the game. Post equalized on a long-distance effort barely a minute later, but Mercy took control from there as Wood had a hand in four straight unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter. The Mavericks rode a 4-2 advantage in the second quarter to lead 10-4 at halftime and, after each team scored once in a quiet third, Mercy rattled off four more unanswered goals to stretch the lead to double digits at 15-5 with 7:52 remaining. Post would get two back before Mercy capped the game on a final tally with 48 seconds left for the 16-7 final score. Wood scored six goals (three unassisted) and made four assists, including on the game-winner by junior Zack Haun (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca East Senior), to extend his Division II lead in points per game With the Mavericks' midfielder decimated by injury, junior transfer Lucas Sarmiento (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Suffolk County CC) stepped up to record a hat trick while Haun and sophomore Danny Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) recorded two points on a goal and assist apiece. Graduate student Kevin Glueckert (Bethpage, N.Y. / Univ. at Albany), senior Zack Zangle (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon), sophomore Connor McLachlan (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) and freshmen Ross Schnitzer (Scarsdale, N.Y. / Loyola Univ.
