Meo Scores Five As No. 1 Men's Lacrosse Turns Aside Chestnut Hill, 14-5


LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (March 20, 2010) – Led in scoring by senior midfielder Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) who had five goals, the No. 1-ranked C.W. Post men’s lacrosse team defeated Chestnut Hill College, 15-5, Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference contest played at Victory Field.

C.W. Post improves to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play while Chestnut Hill slips to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

The Pioneers commanded an early lead and outscored the Griffins 5-0 to open the first quarter before the home team scored its first goal when freshman attacker Mark Lively (Anmore, British Columbia) with 22 seconds left in the quarter.

C.W. Post widened its lead in the second quarter with five unanswered goals with Meo and sophomore attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) scoring two apiece. The Pioneers led 12-3 at the half.

Meo scored his fifth goal with 13:28 to play in the third quarter and the Pioneers scored one more goal in the game from junior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) at 3:49.

The Griffins added their goal with one second to play in the third when freshman attacker Mike Wenz (Portland, Ore.) fired a shot into the back of the net on a feed from freshman midfielder Dan Bohon (Lincoln University, Pa.). Chestnut Hill scored the game’s final goal when freshman midfielder Nate Tharp tallied a goal at 4:27.

Messina, Plompen and junior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) each scored two goals in the game with Plompen and Coric also having an assist. Junior midfielder Doug Hoch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists in the game.

Junior goalkeeper Dan Orlando (South Hempstead, N.Y.) made six saves in roughly 39 minutes in goal for the Pioneers to earn his fourth win of the season. Senior Drew Smith (East Hampton, N.Y.) made one stop and allowed one goal in 20 minutes of action.

Freshman goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, Pa.) made 16 stops in goal for the Griffins in 50 minutes of action.

C.W. Post resumes play on Sunday, March 20 when it hosts Northeast-10 opponent American International College at 2 p.m. on Hickox Field.
