|SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Dominican University of California men's lacrosse team opened its foray into NCAA Division II play with a 13-5 loss to visiting Colorado College on Sunday afternoon at Forest Meadows Field.|
Jim Little put the Penguins (0-1) up first with an unassisted goal three minutes into play. The Tigers (2-0) shut out Dominican for the rest of the first quarter though and answered with four goals, and the first two goals of the second quarter. Joey Sullivan found Cam Evangelho for Dominican's second goal while a man up. Robbie Sautter found Kyle Mitchell at the end of the half to pull the Penguins to within 7-3.
Colorado College opened the third quarter by adding two more goals before Little added his second goal with the assist from Zach Rodriguez. It was Little again, finding Mitchell halfway through the fourth quarter for Mitchell's second score of the game but it wasn't enough as the Tigers tacked on an insurance goal a minute later.
The Penguins were outshot 34-14 but took advantage of three Tiger penalties, scoring twice when a man up. Sam Darrow made 16 saves in the net for the Penguins.
Dominican returns to the field on Saturday, Feb. 20 when Notre Dame de Namur comes calling. The visiting Argonauts, along with the Penguins, are one of three NCAA Division II sponsored programs located in California.
